We’ve attached the receiver via the shoe onto our Sony A7 III, but also had the back up if that went wrong. For audio only, you could attach the receiver to your portable recorder, as well as recording with RODE’s on-board mics.

What’s not great about the Rode Wireless Pro?
- The Kit Case: You get a kit case where all of your bits go – leads, lavalier mics, wind muffs and so on… It’s a nice case, but it looks exactly the same as the docking port for the mics, for asymmetry of design, this is great, practicality – less so. Oh, and with the multitude of bits inside, it is a tight fit. We opted to buy a little zip bag to keep everything safe instead.
- Magnetic plates: Two magnetic plates let you hold the mics on objects or clothing. They aren’t great; we almost lost one when it dropped off.
